This year, Blumers Personal Injury Lawyers is proud to celebrate Amy Burr’s 25 years with the firm. Since joining Blumers in 2001 as a freshly minted ANU Arts/Law graduated Lawyer, Amy has become an integral part of our story, contributing a quarter-century of dedication, leadership, service and care for clients navigating some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
This milestone year is especially significant because it also marks ten years since Amy became a Director of Blumers alongside Noor and Mark Blumer and Phil Schubert. Over that decade, she has helped guide the firm’s growth while continuing to bring the judgement, compassion and practical focus that define her work as a personal injury lawyer.
Amy remembers Blumers in those early days as a busy, purposeful and energetic place to work. The firm was smaller then, with one office (that itself, has expanded four times), a close-knit team and the kind of early technology that would feel very different today. From those beginnings, Blumers has grown into a multi-office practice with a broader reach, while maintaining its focus on skilled, compassionate personal injury law services.
Across Amy’s 25 years, the legal profession has changed significantly. Blumers has grown, adapted and embraced new ways of working, including the digital tools and flexible practices that are now part of everyday legal life. Through that change, Amy has remained a steady presence, helping the firm balance progress with the personal approach that clients value.
Leadership, Values and Contribution
Asked what advice she would offer her younger self, Amy’s answer is clear: do not be a silent bystander. That conviction reflects the lawyer and leader she has become someone who values fairness, ethics, courage and speaking up when it matters. It is also a reminder that a long career is shaped not only by technical skill, but by the values a person chooses to bring to their work every day.
Recognised Expertise and Service
Amy is recognised for both her expertise and her approach to clients. She has developed and now coaches the next generation of practitioners with deep experience across workers compensation, public liability, medical negligence and motor vehicle accident compensation matters. Her work reflects the careful preparation, empathy and persistence that personal injury clients need from their legal team. Amy is (fondly!) remembered in the office (and is self-professed!) as the grammar police.
Over the years, Amy has been recognised repeatedly in Doyle’s Guide across several personal injury practice areas. Her listings have included recognition as a preeminent lawyer in public liability and workers compensation, and as a leading lawyer in medical negligence and motor vehicle accident matters, reflecting the respect she has earned from peers and colleagues across the profession.
Her contribution also extends well beyond her client files. Amy has been an active and committed member of the Australian Lawyers Alliance for many years, serving in roles including ACT Branch President, secretary, conference convener and committee member. In recognition of that contribution, she received the ALA’s national Member of the Year Award in 2024. She has also served on the ACT Law Society Professional Conduct Committee since 2013, and has contributed to work involving sexual harassment, compulsory third-party insurance, young lawyers and women lawyers.
