Phil Schubert

Phil is an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law and is a leading plaintiff compensation lawyer, practising in Canberra and Tasmania. Since commencing his career in personal injury law in 2008, Phil has developed extensive experience in complex medical negligence, catastrophic injury, workers’ compensation, motor accident and public liability claims. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New England and a Master of Laws from the Australian National University, and has built a reputation for achieving outstanding results in challenging and high-stakes litigation.

A Director of the firm since 2016 and responsible director of the Hobart office, Phil is known for taking on difficult matters from the too-hard basket. He has successfully represented clients through all stages of the litigation process, including appellate proceedings, and is passionate about helping injured people navigate some of the most difficult periods of their lives. His approach combines technical excellence with practical advice, strategic advocacy and genuine care for his clients.
Phil’s expertise has been recognised repeatedly by his peers through Doyle’s Guide rankings as a Preeminent, Leading and Recommended Lawyer in workers’ compensation, public liability and motor vehicle accident compensation law. He has also been recognised by the Australian Lawyers Alliance and the ACT Law Society for his contribution to the profession.

Beyond his practice, Phil has made a significant contribution to the legal profession through teaching, writing and advocacy. He has tutored at the ANU Law School, presented at conferences and seminars around Australia, published articles on personal injury law, and held numerous leadership roles within professional legal organisations. He was elected national president of the Australian Lawyers Alliance, the peak body representing plaintiff and civil justice lawyers, for the 2027-28 term.

Away from the office, Phil is an active general aviation pilot who enjoys the challenge and discipline of flying. Whether representing clients in complex litigation or pursuing interests in the air, he brings the same focus, preparation and determination that have become hallmarks of his professional reputation.
